| Bursa Overview |
Bursa is situated on the lower slopes of Uludag, which stands over 2000m above the city. Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and the burial place of several sultans, and is home to some of the best early Ottoman monuments in Turkey.
Koza Parki is the heart of Bursa, with beautiful fountains; benches; and many cafes that line the streets. There is also an excellent covered market, the Bedesten, which sells a wide range of jewellery and precious metals. |

Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art - This museum should be on the top of your to do list, with an amazing exhibition of Iznik ware; Canakkale ceramics; glass items; and a replica of an Ottoman circumcision chamber.
Yesil Camii - This is the most beautiful of Bursa's imperial mosques, and it is located on the eastern side of the river. The green tiles inside the mosque is where it gets its name from.
Yesil Turbe - This mosque is another one of Bursa's main attractions. The beautiful mosque cotains the sarcophagus of Celebi Mehmet I and assorted offspring.
Yeni Kaplica - Located just out of the centre of town, these are the nearest of Bursa's baths. They give an indication of what Bursa was like when it was patronized as a spa.
Muradiye Kulliyesi - The mosque and medrese complex was built in around 1424, and is the last imperial foundation in Bursa. It is most famous for its tombs, which are situated in its beautiful garden. |

International Bursa Festival (June - July) - This is one of the main events on the Bursa events calendar every year. The streets of Bursa are transformed into one big party, with music; folklore concerts; fairs; and much more.
Independence Day (29 October) - This is the main national holiday of Turkey, and it is celebrated throughout Turkey with a huge party. The streets of Bursa are turned into one big party for the whole day, with many activities on offer. |
